My wife has started back to work after being on my maternity leave for the past year. Fortunately she has been able to stage her return and is working 3 days a week until Christmas at which point she will return full time. This means I am responsible for looking after our son a couple of days a week and so far so good.
I was a bit apprehensive that my work would suffer but if anything I now use my time more effectively and instead of logging on to check my social networks I now complete things in order of priority (social networks being a low priority – hence my lack of tweets). Surprisingly, I am also producing reports and quotations quicker than normal. I used to leave these documents for a few days after the meeting but I now begin working on them straight away as I cannot be guaranteed that my son won’t need a bit more attention than normal on the days I look after him.
It may sound strange, but now I have a little less time to work I am more productive and get more done – for now at least.
