Much of my work involves creating websites that are maintained by clients. The maintenance can be as simple as adding news or more elaborate like running an E-Commerce shop or posting video / mp3 content.
To allow my clients to maintain these sites I develop them using a number of Open Source CMS’s (Content Management Solutions) such as Joomla, Drupal, Wordpress, Mambo, etc. To train my clients on how to maintain their sites I produce video tutorials. These tutorials used to take a long time to create but recently I started using ‘Screenflow’.
Screenflow is a mac application that records your entire desktop, your webcam and any audio (computer and microphone). Once recorded you can overlay the desktop with the video captured from your webcam and perform a number of actions on your desktop recording such as zooming into the address bar, etc. – as a result you can produce amazingly professional Screencasts exceptionally easily. It has been a while since I been so impressed by a bit of software and with a price tag of around £70 it is a must buy for anyone creating desktop tutorials.
